How to Measure Curtains

Follow this guide to measure your curtain rod or track, choose your hanging method, and enter the correct width and height for your custom curtains.

No extra calculations are needed for pleats or fullness—we take care of that for you.

Step 1: Measure Your Curtain Rod or Track

Measure the usable width of your curtain rod or track, not just the width of the window. This measurement determines the total width your curtains need to cover.

If you're installing a new rod or track, we recommend extending it approximately 15–40 cm beyond each side of the window and positioning it 10–25 cm above the window frame for better light coverage and a balanced appearance.

Use the final installed rod or track width when ordering.

How to Measure the Width Correctly

Curtain Rod

Measure the usable length of the rod between the decorative end caps (finials). Do not include the finials themselves.

Curtain Track

Measure the full usable length of the track from one end to the other.

You will enter this measurement directly in the Width field when placing your order.

Step 2: Choose Your Hanging Method

We offer six hanging methods:

  • Pencil Pleat

A timeless style with elegant, adjustable pleats.

  • Grommet

A popular choice for contemporary spaces.

  • Ripple Fold

Creates smooth, continuous waves and is designed for use with a compatible curtain track.

  • Rod Pocket & Back Tab

Can be hung using either the rod pocket or the concealed back tabs for a clean, tailored look.

  • Pinch Pleated

Creates a formal and elegant appearance with structured, evenly spaced pleats.

  • Rod Pocket

The curtain rod passes directly through the pocket at the top for a simple, clean look.

Step 3: Enter Your Curtain Width

Enter the measured width of your curtain rod or track directly in the Width field. This is the total width your curtains need to cover.

Do not multiply the measurement or add extra width for pleats or fullness. We automatically calculate the required fabric based on your selected hanging method.

Example

  • Measured rod or track width: 200 cm
  • Width to enter: 200 cm

The same rule applies to all six hanging methods.

Choose Single Panel or Pair

Choose how many curtain panels you need. The Width you enter is always the total width to be covered.

Single Panel: One curtain panel covers the entire entered width.

Pair (2 Equal Panels): Two curtain panels share the entered total width equally.

Example: Width = 200 cm

  • Single Panel: 1 panel covering 200 cm.
  • Pair: 2 panels, each covering 100 cm.

Quantity = 1 means one single panel or one pair, depending on your selection.

We calculate the additional fabric needed for your chosen hanging method automatically.

Step 4: Measure Your Curtain Height

Choose where you want your curtains to end.

Just Above the Floor

For a clean, modern look, allow the curtains to end approximately 1–1.5 cm above the floor.

Puddling on the Floor

For a softer, more luxurious look, allow an additional 20–30 cm of fabric to rest on the floor.

Below the Window Sill

For shorter curtains, allow them to extend approximately 15–20 cm below the window sill. If there's a radiator underneath, leave approximately 2–3 cm of clearance above it.

Important: The Height you enter is the finished length of each curtain panel, including when you order a pair.

Measuring from a Curtain Rod

For Grommet, Rod Pocket, and Rod Pocket & Back Tab curtains, measure from the top of the curtain rod to your desired curtain endpoint.

Enter this measurement in the Height field.

Measuring with Rings, Hooks or Track Gliders

For curtains attached using rings, hooks, or track gliders, measure from the designated attachment point to your desired curtain endpoint.

The exact starting point depends on your hanging hardware.
